A character certificate records a factual statement about a person’s conduct during an association with a school, employer or another organization. The templates below provide layouts for preparing that statement. They should be completed and signed only by someone authorized to verify the information.

Choosing the right format
Select a student, employee or general layout appropriate to the relationship. Check the receiving organization’s required wording and document type before editing. A character reference is not automatically a police clearance certificate.
Details to include
- Person’s full name and any relevant reference number
- Issuing organization and dates of study, employment or association
- Accurate conduct statement, issue date and authorized signature
How to use the template
- Confirm what certificate the receiving authority requires.
- Replace sample wording with a statement the issuer can substantiate.
- Check spellings, dates, signer details and any required stamp or letterhead.
Worked example
A student certificate can identify the school, attendance period and authorized signatory. Do not copy a statement of conduct unless the issuing organization can truthfully make it.
