A restaurant checklist organizes tasks that must be completed before an opening or during routine operations. The samples below include startup and pre-opening layouts. A checklist supports consistency but does not by itself guarantee profit or regulatory compliance.

Choosing the right format
Separate opening a new business from opening the premises for service each day. A startup list may cover equipment and approvals; a daily list may cover staffing, supplies and cleaning. Adapt each checklist to the facility and applicable local requirements.
Details to include
- Task, responsible person and required completion date
- Status, notes and follow-up actions
- Review or approval for tasks that require verification
How to use the template
- Choose the checklist matching the stage of your operation.
- Assign owners and record unresolved tasks clearly.
- Review it before the opening or shift and carry issues forward until resolved.
Worked example
A pre-opening task could read ‘check refrigeration installation | facilities lead | due date | awaiting contractor’. A daily task might instead verify the designated cleaning routine.
